Education is the foundation of the development of a country. However, our education is suffering from a crisis of confused values. Most of us think that the only purpose of receiving education is for students to go to a higher school. But that is wrong. I still remember my senior high school teacher said: "The greatness and profundity of knowledge is the pursuing for truth in the process of studying and training in life; it is not only what one's educational background can display to society." Besides, we often have a wrong idea that students receive education just for monetary rewards in the future. Students thus become machines for exams.
The main function of education is for each individual to develop a sound mind and a sound body. In general, the students in our country have such a heavy workload that they don't even have time to do recreational activities, which are beneficial to their health and mind. Moreover, in the exam-oriented teaching activities, students are seldom encouraged to think over the problems in their lives. Consequently, they will lack independent thinking abilities.
Under the pressure of going to a higher school, students get hurt both in mind and body. Students should be taught to cope with life's problems instead of acquiring trivial ideas for exams only. The school authorities should put equal emphasis on moral, intellectual, physical education and training in group.
Those students who are able to face their lives seriously and optimistically will become healthy citizens mentally and physically. Without correct values of education, our society will be in danger.
