The dimension of the world have decreased by the incredible and astonishing improvements and developments in the information and communication technology. The globalization of information and communication is to lift or to remove obstacles and barriers in front of the people to reach knowledge , data, and information. People have without facing any difficulties had opportunities and chance to get what kind of information they want. By the amazing and unbelievable technological advancements in the information and communication, global broadcasting of TV channels; publication and distribution of newspapers, books, and magazines; widespread usage of internet have made the world global village, and the people its settlers.
Today, we the individuals throughout the world are more lucky and have more chance to communicate with each us and to be informed to news and events happening all over the world compared to the ones who lived a few decades ago. They did not get the news from giant and globally broadcasting TV channels and simultaneously as we do today. They did not also have the newspaper published in many countries at the same time. Furthermore they were not aware of and even in dream of the internet technology which is the global computer network that people can communicate --write, speak, see-- with each other, and that is huge information and data storage. They were only able to see such facilities on the hollywood movies which were really so primitive in technological perspective if judged on today's level. Today we can easily and immediately get the books or any other published materials in other parts of the world, the US or Japan, as soon as they are published. In addition, I can easily reach the Japanese or Brazilian newspapers to read, and make comment on issues belonging to those countries. And the reverse is also possible; namely people overseas can read the newspapers printed in Turkey. For example, The Washington Post, he Japan Times, The Time, The Economist are served together with our breakfast as the daily newspapers, and magazines printed in Turkerkey. All of these are provided by printing them in different countries and thanks to the improvement in delivery system. Moreover, all of these publications are also available on the internet as electronic versions. Whoever has the facility to use internet can have them without showing any efforts.
Individuals throughout the world today can easily communicate with each other. Email exchanges are the first means to communicate via internet. Together with the technological advancements, certain forums for discussion groups have been provided under different categories according to the interest area. By this people who have thoughts on specific themes can send their messages to a certain address that was subscribed ago. And the subscribers can read and send their comments on that topic, and the discussion goes on like that. Recently most widely used means for communication, especially widespread among young people, is the Internet Relay Chat, IRC. The attractive side of it is that people simultaneously communicate with each other, namely time and place are not important. In this context, I want to write about my experience. Really I do not know how many friends I have from different countries, colours, ages, and beliefs. We exchange our email, try to know each us, our cultures, customs and traditions. We also discuss the problems which the world faces. Even though we are sometimes not on the same side in discussions, we tolerate and show respect to the views of each of us. Therefore, we learn and experience so much how the people see the world and what takes place in the other parts of the world.
Recently people of the world have become one nation with the mass communication tools. What I mean by this ambiguous statement is that we can easily and unrestrictedly reach the information about what is going on in other points of the world. I, as a person living in Turkey, am informed about the news in Osaka by internet, TV channels with the aid of satellites, on-line electronic newspapers, and vice versa. Furthermore, we now judge and evaluate common events in the whole world. For example, if we consider the cases of Bosnia-Herzegovina, Iraq's invasion of Kuwait, terrorist actions, we react to them as a common voice. How? By CNN and other broadcasting channels, delivering news of Associated Press--AP--, Reuters and the other agents, and also by internet information. But the people who witnessed the two world wars did not have such a chance and opportunity. And the result was unescapably millions of killed human bodies. This implies that internet and other communication means make some contribution to the democratization process of the world. Wherever something goes wrong, all the people from all over the world react and take actions against that mistake. From here we can easily infer that the importance of the national borders has gradually decreased, because people of today know each other well compared to the past.
Consequently, we the young individuals of the world should realize the importance of the globalization process. We make some efforts and participate to hasten it in order to live in a better and more peaceful world. Otherwise we will not be able to be aware of that blessing and maybe we will continue to live as our ancestors did.
